Flamingos : Toddlers aged 18 months – 30 months

We have two very spacious rooms with interconnecting double doors, equipped with a large changing room and plenty of space for feeding and sleeping. Dependent on Flams 6the age ranges we can accommodate between 15 and 18 toddlers across the two rooms looked after by 5 members of staff, with contingency staff and lunch cover. Children also have access to our soft play room on the second floor which also doubles up as a sleep room.

Movers, Shakers and Players – At this age, children begin to show an increasing independence and obvious pleasure in Flams 5moving, communicating and learning through play. Our Flamingos rooms offer many opportunities for their developmental needs. We also include various other activities such as arts and crafts, heuristic play, music and movement, exploratory areas and plenty of opportunity for free play both indoors and outside.

Toucans and Robins : Toddlers aged 2 years – Just over 3 years

Walkers, Talkers and Pretenders – At this age children display a greater competence at moving and talking and pretending. They also show increased confidence in themselves and their skills at making relationships.

In terms of organisation, the front room caters for all their messy activities: arts and crafts, sand and water play, cornflower, play dough and many more. This room also is the base for all meals served throughout the day. The other Toucan’s room includes areas like their home corner, book corner, computer area, construction area as well as a comfy carpeted area with sleep mats and blankets.

By setting the rooms up in this way we aim for the children’s development to take place without too many overly formal activities. The children will be able to explore and learn throughout their day without too much pressure. They have free access into the garden which provides them with an outdoor extension to their indoor activities. At this age also, children will be experiencing the change from nappies to potties and toilets. Whatever the challenge, you can be assured that our staff are well trained and committed.robins deck

Attached to Toucans within a conservatory style room is (Robins), our newest playgroup. Robins evolved due to a need to have a transition room for our older 2 year olds and younger 3’s, before going to the Owls pre-school rooms. Children at this age can quickly develop physical, emotional and learning needs that require a slightly different approach to younger twos and older threes. Robins gives a bit more focus to the types of activities that children will experience in the pre-school rooms, and ultimately provides an easier and comfortable transition to Owls.
